Exhibition Opening: Shifting Bodies 16:00-19:00 at Kulturhuset

Join us for the opening of the exhibition featuring artworks by Marit Silsand (NO) and Maria Høyen (NO).

Action Movie Performance by Body Cartography Project 17:00-19:00 at Skippergata 1C (RSVP for participation required)

A bodily movement performance by Olive Bieringa (NZ/NO) and Otto Ramstad (US/NO) that incorporates the audience into it!

Vernissage: Sea Change 19:00 at Skippergata 1C

The opening of our main exhibition space, featuring audio-visual and installation works by Ariane Loze (BE), Eli Maria Lundgård (NO), Katerina Sokolovskaya (BY/RU) &Inna Krasnoper (RU/DE), Bianca Hisse (BZ/NO), Nikita Seleznev (RU) and Vsevolod Kovalevskij (LT/NO).

There will be drinks and a food buffet by Green Falafel. Free of charge, everyone welcome!

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 8

Non-binary Body: Reclaiming the Space/Conversation 12:00-13:00 at Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum

A lecture-conversation by two gender-queer artists, Dasha Che (RU/US) and Marina Shamova (RU), that will be touching on the issues of gender, body, identity and representation.

A talk with Belgian artist Ariane Loze about her video art practice and its relationship to society and feminism.

An artist tour/talk around our main exhibition, where you will get more insights into the works of the artistic duo of Katerina Sokolovskaya&Inna Krasnoper, as well as Nikita Seleznev.

Eirik Slyngstad’s (NO) solo performance that blends song, audio, text (such as spam e-mails and craigslist ads), light and movement.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10

The second day of the workshop on queer and feminist movement-based art practice by Dasha Che&Marina Shamova. Participation in Day 1 is desirable but not obligatory. Recommended participant age 17+.

The Apocalypse Talks 18:30-19:30 at Small Projects

The textile cooperative Shvemy (UA/RU) are hosting a performance lecture dedicated to the apocalypse. This will also serve as an introduction to the costume workshop led by Shvemy (or, Tonya, Maria, Anna and Olesya) which will take place in the following days.

Kurant Kino presents a selection of artists’ five moving-image in collaboration, with Sarah Schipschhack, curated for Open Out Festival. The doors will open starting from 18:30.

Join day two of Shvemy‘s textile workshop to create a smashing outfit for the Apocalypse Party on Saturday, September 14! Please note that participation in Day 1 is required.

Kripi Malviya (IN) will be reading her poems from the series The Poetry of Therapy in the beautiful booklover haven that is Mondo Books.

Tromsø Folkekjøkken (People’s Kitchen) Communal Dinner 17:00-20:00 at Kafe EKA, Tromsø Kunstforening

An infamous communal dinner event, where everyone is invited to get creative transforming the produce donated by a local supermarket into delicious vegetarian food! Tromsø Folkekjøkken is an initiative by local artist Liv Bangsund.

Before her performance at 13h, Margunn Kilde invites you to discover some of the interactive setting that she has created.

“I carry your boundaries with me” is a study in the concept of demarcation and how we, through movement and moving through conversation, can find intersections in how we talk about and relate to various topics, and in turn experience common denominators and transformational understanding. Recommended viewer age 18+. Younger people will be admitted if accompanied.

To get to the performance space go up the stairs and enter the building through the top door, go inside the corridor and turn left following the WC sign with an arrow. Then go straight past the door marked WC to enter into the performance space.

Questions for Fossilists: Pop-up event with Republic of Navalon 15:00-16:00 at Small Projects

Republic of Navalon is an artist duo hailing from Finland and is this year’s Open Out‘s guest artists in residency. In this pop-up event, they will present some of their findings, constructions and other surprises.

Troms fylkeskultursenter’s Nordic-Baltic A-i-R program has since its start in 2010 hosted 31 artists from Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Denmark, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Troms fylkeskultursenter’s Nordic-Baltic A-i-R program program aims to strengthen contact between Tromsø’s growing art scene and artists from the Nordic and Baltic countries.

Nordic-Baltic A-i-R program is supported by Troms fylkeskommune and Nordic Culture Point.

Festival Closing Party x The Apocalypse (The End, My Friend…) 20:00 at Kafe EKA, Tromsø Kunstforening

A sweet (and slightly transgressive) ending to the festival week, with apocalyptic costumes by Shvemy and participants of the previous days’ workshop. Starting from 22h, DJ Nephentes will make the night all sparkles and glitter from behind his decks. Come party with us until the end of the night world! Free entrance.
